Canadian Junior Women’s Team Finishes Fourth
Published by Michael Henry on August 22, 2012
On August 19, 2012 the Canadian Junior Women’s Basketball Team finished their FIBA Americas Tournament with a fourth place finish after loosing their Bronze Medal matchup against Argentina by a score of 53-49.
The U18 tournament took place in Puerto Rico with Canada grouped together with Brazil, Puerto Rico and Mexico. The Canadians finished Pool play with a record of 2-1, good enough for second place in Pool B, and the ability to advance to the tournament’s Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, Canada would go on to loose both of their remaining two games, leaving them with the Fourth place finish.
Although the final outcome was a bit disappointing, their finish was at least favorable enough for the Canadian Juniors to earn a birth at next year’s U19 World Championship taking place in Lithuania.
Although many of the players on the Junior squad have made commitments to University this upcoming year, there are several that have still have some time yet to decide where they may play their post secondary basketball.
The Junior team’s uncommitted players are:
Cheyanne Roger (6’2″, C, Michael Power, 2013) Sara-Jane Marois (5’6″, G, Trois-Rivières, 2013)
Sam Cooper (6’1″, G/F, Lockerby, 2013)
Sami Hill (5’8″, G, Blair Academy, 2013)
