Charles Excited For PHASE 1 ACC
Published by Steven Loung on June 11, 2010
The All-Canada Classic is just a few short days away, and one of Quebec’s most talented players is ready to showcase his skills to the rest of the nation.
The Champlain St. Lambert Cavaliers’ Yann Charles will be playing for Team White on June 14 and he wants his play to do the talking.
“I just want to show my game,” Charles said. “I think I’m ready to come up and show Canada what I’m all about.”
The 6’5” swingman’s game should be a lot of fun to watch under the bright lights of the Air Canada Centre. His buttery smooth long-range jumper will be enjoyable to see, especially with the temptation of pulling up from NBA range, and his quickness and athleticism should be easy to notice due to the faster paced tempo that most all-star games play at.
Charles was earlier named as a Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian due to a strong season at Champlain St. Lambert where he was named the Fédération Québecoise du Sport Étudiant (FQSE) player of the year averaging 22 points and 6.25 rebounds per contest.
Despite these great accolades, the lefty from Longeuil, Quebec remained humble, and was ecstatic to be selected for the All-Canada Classic.
“I heard people tell me that I might be part of the all-star game [All-Canada Classic], but I wasn’t sure. Then when I got that phone call I was just happy to have made it. Very happy about it,” Charles said.
Looking beyond the All-Canada Classic, recently the Cavaliers standout announced that he will be exporting his services down south to play NCAA Division I at Robert Morris. The primary reasons for the move to the United States in September is because he liked the feel of the team, and what the school can provide for him scholastically.
“When I visited the Robert Morris campus I just clicked right away,” Charles said. “The whole team chemistry; the players were great, the coaching staff was, just, unbelievable, and, academically too, it was just such a great fit for me.”
For now though, Charles will be in Canada for a little while longer, and more importantly, he will be at the Air Canada Centre on Monday, June 14 playing in the All-Canada Classic where he will be competing with, and against, the best high school basketball players in Canad
