CRUSADERS DOMINATE AT BOB MAYDO CLASSIC
Published by Gilbert Muako on October 29, 2009
Toronto, ON- The official season hasn’t kicked off yet but things are already intense. The Bob Maydo Classic took place at Emery C.I. and showed a peak of what to expect from GTA (Greater Toronto Area) in this years boy’s high school campaign. This eight team, junior boys’ event featured some of Canada’s promising talent such as Miqueel Martin, Tyler Ennis and Tevin Findlay (just to name a few).
As expected, the championship came down to Eastern Commerce-A Saints and Father Henry Carr-A Crusaders, two powerful programs in the Canadian high school basketball scene. Father Henry Carr looked hungry as always; this team went undefeated last season and is looking to do the same this year with their fearful full court press, skills, fundamentals, athletic and fast breaking game. Eastern Commerce is very similar to the Crusaders in the athletic department and loves the open court. The game started off fast pace with both teams exchanging baskets. The first quarter ended at 29 – 24 in Henry Carr’s favor. The five point different in the first quarter was the closest Eastern Commerce came as the Crusader took hold of the game with aggressive defense and scoring a bunch of points off the fast break.
Finals
Father Henry Carr-A: 104 VS Eastern Commerce-A: 73
Tyler Ennis: 29 pts James Sylvester: 18 pts
Tevin Findlay: 31 pts
STANDOUTS

Tyler Ennis
Tyler Ennis 6’0” PG (2013) Father Henry Carr-One of most exciting players to watch, he makes the game look so easy. Ennis showed great ability of handling the ball and is excellent in the open court. He is super confident, leads by example, very calm and self controlled (he does not involve himself in any trash talking or taunting, just lets his game do the work). Ennis is very unselfish, has good passing skills and amazing court vision and can score when needed to. He is capable of knocking down the open three pointer with feet set, but should look into improving his shot off the bounce. With continuous hard work Ennis will evolve into a special player.

Josh Bell
Josh Bell 6’2” Combo Guard (2013) Father Henry Carr- Bell has definitely improved his shooting since the last time we witnessed him in action. He is now making better decisions on the court as well. Bell has a powerful body weighing over 200 pounds which he uses to abuse smaller guards. He is also playing with much more confidence.
Tevin Findlay 6’3” PG (2013) Father Henry Carr- Findlay could be a nightmare for the defense when he catches momentum, evident in the championship game as he went on a run scoring basket after basket. Findlay has a quick first step. He drives hug the ball to his body and performs a hop step before finishing strong. With his feet set he’ll hit open three, just like the other young guards he’ll need to put in some work on his jumper.
Miqueel Martin 6’2” Combo Guard (2013) Downsveiw- We were not there to witness Miqueel in earlier action due to team being eliminated but from our past viewing we’re aware that Martin would have been able to put up big numbers in the tournament and is definitely worth the mention. He is one of the top prospects in his class.
Honorable Mentions
Larelde Dixon 6’6” C (2013) Father Henry Carr- Fairly new to organize basketball Larelde Dixon looks raw, he a work in progress. Dixon will be a huge key to Henry Carr’s success due to his strong rebounding and effectiveness on the defensive end.
James Sylvester 5’10” Combo Guard (2012) Eastern Commerce-Sylvester has good speed which served him well as he made a living attacking the basket. He should invest some time into the left as he forces everything to right even when taken away by the defense.
