GOT NEXT: Cassidy Ryan
Published by Jason Gairey on January 28, 2010
It is very rare to see a 6-foot-6; curly red-head running up and down the floor in the basketball court. It is kind of reminiscent of the good old Raptor days with one of the most lovable, hard-nosed NBA players to grace Toronto, Matt Bonner. Except 15 year-old Cassidy Ryan is only a freshman, and his potential is very promising. Let’s forget about the red curls that bounce up and down as he grabs rebound after rebound. This kid has game.
For the past few years, he’s been one of the top players at his age level in the OBA ranks. But he has entered the stage where your game has to be on point. The high school era of his life has finally come. Cassidy has taken it one step further than most 8th graders coming in to play on their high school bantam or junior teams. He’s opted for the bigger challenge, the jump right to the big boys: senior Varsity ball!
Big Red, as many call him, is not at a household powerhouse program, but is comfortable at Mount Carmel, a catholic high school in Mississauga, ON. He still is competing with some of the best senior teams in the Peel region and that is no easy task for any freshman. Cassidy has been impressive thus far averaging 15ppg, 7rpg, and 2blks.
Known for his toughness and intense inside play, Cassidy Ryan is most definitely a banger, loving to post up and use his body and size to dictate his presence on the hardwood. Being that he is a potential double-double kind of player is a sign that he brings it every night. He is working on his handle and perimeter game and looking to be more versatile. However, there could be a day when his aggressiveness and size may be matched. By the looks of things with his progress this year, his potential is unlimited. He has some athletic ability, but for the most part, his scrappiness and hard-working mentality is what has many insiders of this game, ears low and watching.
