Richard Peters, Verbal with Powerhouse Oklahoma
Published by CROWN staff on June 24, 2009
Richard Peters, one of the top Canadians coming out of the 2011 class has made a verbal commitment to play in the Big 12 with the Oklahoma Sooners after receiving interest from several other high major schools such as UCONN, Florida State Louisville and Pittsburgh, to name a few. “OU is a hell of place if you ask me, visited last spring for a couple of days it was a great experience to see where i could be playing in a few years for college basketball,” said Peters.
Originally a freshman out of Jean Vanier secondary in Scarborough, Ontario; Richard transferred to Sagemont Upper School in Florida last year in order to reach his potential. Since his departure, this 6’10 centre has improved his entire game significantly to the point where he has planted himself among the top players in his class in North America!
Peters is not the only Canadian on this Oklahoma unit. Entering his senior year is former Loyola Warrior out of Mississauga, ON, Ryan Wright. “Ryan Wright being there right now, a fellow Canadian and also a friend is great as well. I asked him alot of questions and i got all the answers i needed.”
But with regards to the Sooner program, Richard was content with everything from the academics, to the school spirit and especially the coaching staff. “Head coach Jeff Capel is a coach i want to be coached by. I want to be Coached by a person who Coached Blake Griffin. Blake couldn’t be so talented without some sort of help and Coach Capel was that guy.”
