Gacon, who played at St Paul’s High School, is a 6’5” guard who averaged 18.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and seven assists over the past season helping lead his team to the 2008-09 Milk AAAA Provincial Championships where he was named tournament all star. A member of the 2008 17U Provincial Team, Gacon was also named an all star in both Winnipeg Invitational Tournament as well as the John Taylor Varsity Boys Tournament this past season.
Duff, who older brother Justin is a three year member of the Wesmen volleyball team, helped lead his Garden City Fighting Gophers to back to back Provincial AAAA Championships (2007-08, 2008-09). The 6’4” forward was named a tournament all star both championship years and was this season’s recipient of the Player’s Choice Award. Duff has led his high school team to two Wesmen Classic High School titles as well as playing with the Jr. Wesmen in 2006-07 that competed in the Main Event Tournament in Las Vegas.
In press releases sent out by the school, Coach Cook is very excited about the additions and he should. Both Duff and Gacon were recently named to the MBCA All Provincial First Team this past spring. Coach Cook has said that they could both provide “an immediate impact” while also setting a “great foundation for the future” of the program.
Both Gacon and Duff will add talent to a team that had no seniors in the lineup this past season and finished with a 6-19 record. The two players, along with big man transfer Adam Dobriansky, should help improve the Wesmen and possibly make them an instant contender in the Canada West this coming season.
