Yet Another Prospect on the Prep Trail

Pierrefonds, Quebec-Over the past 2-3 years, Prep schools have really become popular, especially for Canadian kids. Year in and year out, a chunk of the top Canadian prospects have been exiting south in order to increase chances of athletic success and how could you blame them right? Several players have watched their stock increase and most recent is Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph of Findlay Prep who are both currently ranked in the top 10 in America; or North America for that matter.

Olivier Betu of Brookwood Elite

A player that will be following this trend in the upcoming fall season is Olivier Betu. This 6’2 combo guard playing for Brookwood Elite out of Pierrefonds, Quebec is scheduled to be playing for Worcestire Academy this September in Massachusetts after averaging 18ppg, 5rpg, 5apg and 3 steals for Brookwood this past season.
Olivier has the ability to play both perimeter positions at a high level. With his natural scoring touch, Betu is a sure threat anywhere on the floor. Having great dribbling skills and court vision, he is able to lead his team at the point as well. Betu’s AAU coach, Joey McKitterick professes, “Olivier is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. He translates this well onto the court.”
Although part of the 2012 class, Olivier will be technically entering his freshman year at Worcestire in hopes of boosting his stock and becoming among the top players in his class. I will go out on a limb and say that he has the capabilities to do so. Betu has all the tools, however he will need to add a great deal of strength and muscle mass in order to become a dominant guard. “He has the ability to affect the game on both ends with his defence and rounding out complete offensive game. Very few people know about him,” says coach Mckitterick.
