Betu To The Big West

Yesterday the 6-foot-2 Brookwood Elite lead guard who attends Worcester Academy in MA committed to UC Davis Aggies in the Big West Conference.
Speaking on his commitment yesterday Betu says,“I committed this morning. I feel comfortable about going to UC Davis because there is a new coaching staff coming in. One of the coaches (Chris Davis) coached at Providence for the last three years.” – a school that has shown him interest in the past.
Betu gained respect and trust for first year head coach Jim Les, felt he could be very instrumental in his development. Not only has Les succeeded as a coach, leading Bradley University to the sweet sixteen in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. He has also played the point guard position at the highest level, spending seven seasons in the NBA. Betu felt there’s no better than to learn from someone who has accomplished great things playing similar point guard position.
“I also felt comfortable because coach [Jim] Les was once in my shoes as a point guard but at the highest level. It made me understand that he knows the game and I can learn a lot from him and hopefully be able to play one day at that same level he did if things work out well. If it’s not the case, I will still have a degree from one of the top academic schools in the world.”
The commitment comes just about a week since Betu took a visit to the school’s campus.
“ I visited last week and I felt very comfortable with the team and the offensive style of play for this year. It is an uptempo style which is really my type of play so I felt like that was another plus to my decision.”
Betu was also recruited by Vermont, Columbia, Virginia & Stanford.
