On June 13, 2012 Team West defeated Team East in the All Canada Classic All-Star Game by a slim score of 71-70.
The game featured many of the brightest stars in Canadian Girls’ high school basketball. It included many that over the next few months, will be headed to University to take their game to the next level.
Standout Lindsay Shotbolt (6’0″, G/F, 2012) scored 26 points leading all scorers on her way to earning game MVP honors. The future Carleton Raven shot 10-17 from the field and also added 16 rebounds in the dramatic win.
This year’s All Canada Classic was close throughout the entire game that despite coming up short, saw Team East with a chance to win it late. East’s Sami Hill (5’10″G/F, Blair Academy, 2013), who ended up with 24 points, was looking to add to that total as her team designed a play for her coming out of a timeout with under 10 seconds to play and her team down by one. Hill was able to get her hands on the ball outside the arc on the wing. She drove the ball to the foul line, looking to nail a jumper she had been successful with many times already in the game. Unfortunately her attempt was blocked by Forward, Taijah Campbell (6’2″, F, 2012 Virginia Tech commit) right at the buzzer, solidifying the positive result for Team West.
Along with Team West being led in scoring by Shotbolt’s 26 points and 16 rebounds, they also a contribution from Dakota Whyte (5’8″, G, 2012, Wisconsin commit) scoring 13 point and adding 5 rebounds and Taijah Campbell’s 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Countering alongside Hill’s 24 points for Team East was Sandra Amoah (5’10″, G/F, 2012 Memorial University (NF) commit) who scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds and Saicha Grant-Allen (6’4″, F, Glendale, 2013) who added 9 boards.
