Contributing to the growing success of basketball in Canada is one of the perennial powers in High School basketball the Henry Carr Crusaders. Ranked #1 in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is the Junior A team closely followed by the grade 9 phenoms at #4. The senior team is no slouch ranked in the top 3 in the GTA as well. Father Henry Carr continues to produce results both on and off the court.
Coming into this year the future of Carr Basketball received a huge uplift with the freshman class entering as one of the most talented groups of players in recent memory of GTA basketball. Guard strong, the Crusaders have three big time players, Tyler Ennis one of the best pure points in the GTA, an outstanding 3 point shot and recent City TV (Toronto) athlete of the week and most recent Mother Teresa tournament All Star. Tevin Findlay a scoring machine with an emerging outsidepresence and lock down defense, and big Josh Bell. Bells body size alone as a freshman will be crazy. At 6’1″ and 205lbs Josh’s guard skills, outside shot and ability to bang will allow him to take over games at will. All three players together are averaging close to 50 points a game. Carr will also be supported by emerging and developing big man Mathew Atewe, at 6’8″ Atiene will definitely be a force for Carr basketball in the future. Ennis, Findlay and Bell all attended the Jr. All American Camp this past summer and performed very will with NCAA Division 1 coaches instructing and watching them. Ennis and Bell will also represent Canada playing for CIA Bounce in France this April. Playing up, Ennis and Bell’s AAA Major Midget OBA/AAU team will try to defend Bounces two time European championship. As for the Crusaders and the future, it looks very bright with these guys driving Carr.
In the classroom these players are no slouches either. On the court they are a force to be reconned with, but off the court their academics are just as impressive. All three players are in the Advanced Placement Program (A.P.). Ennis, Findlay and Bell all have an average GPA of over 80%. “Books and ball have to go hand in hand, these are outstanding athletes, but what I really love is that they are just as good in the classroom, and last but not least; they are great kids” states Paul Melnik.
Both Bell and Ennis have followed their older brother’s high school careers at Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga as well as St Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary in Brampton. “Both Tyler and Josh have seen what their older brothers have had to do to make it in school and ball, both Justin and Brandon found out late how important books were to the success of their basketball careers” stated McIntyre their Junior Carr coach and AAU coach with Bounce Basketball. 6’7″ Justin Bell in his second year has started a successful career at York University, while 6’4″ Brandon Ennis has started his career south of the border on full scholarship at Southern Connecticut State University.
