Catching Up With Nik Stauskas
Published by Steven Loung on August 4, 2010
Over the past few months Nik Stauskas has drawn a lot of buzz.
The recruiting period has just begun for the 6-foot-6 guard and so far, despite how hectic it’s been, he’s been having a blast.
“This whole process of being recruited has just been crazy,” Stauskas said. “I’m into it though, so it’s just been real fun.”
It’s probably a good thing that Stauskas is enjoying the madness of being recruited, because, judging from the schools that have expressed interest in him, he will need to quickly get used to the busy schedule that a high level prospect must adhere to in order to get recruited.
The schools that want the Grassroots Canada product are all NCAA Division I level, and they include Michigan, Villanova, Iowa State, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Florida and Providence, with more coming.
Of the schools listed, Stauskas has already visited Villanova, and recently visited Michigan over the past weekend.
Taking his time with the recruitment process, Stauskas, who is expected to graduate in 2012, is still very much undecided on where he wants to go.
One thing he has made a decision on is going down to the United States to play prep school ball.
After completing his first season down there at South Kent School in Connecticut, he has opted to transfer to another prep school for the coming school year, St. Mark’s School, located near Boston.
The reason for the transfer was because Stauskas believes that the situation, both scholastically and athletically, at St. Mark’s is better for him overall compared to South Kent.
“Academically it’s a much better school,” Stauskas said. “Basketball-wise, I’m just going to get a better opportunity to showcase my talent there.”
Since St. Mark’s School is known as one of the top academic prep schools in the United States it cannot hurt Stauskas to want to succeed in the classroom in order to get ahead on the hardwood.
With the great list of schools that have already expressed interest in him and the way he has sorted out his situation down south by transferring and putting himself in the best possible position to stand out even more, the buzz around Stauskas will just continue to get louder.
