The 6-foot-11 Kelowna S.S star center saw the best of both world in choosing the Big Red. An opportunity to get a degree from one of the top academic schools in the world, while playing basketball at good level was something Bunce couldn’t pass up.
“Cornell was the best overall fit for my basketball and academic needs. The ivy league education will set up the rest of my life. ”
When we last reported on Bunce few weeks back while he was in the midst of taking official visits to Penn and Cornell.
“Loved my visit a couple weeks ago really bonded with the team and especially the other two fellow recruits who were on their visits with me who have committed. The 3 of us will room together next year. Loved the whole staff and got a good feeling from coach [Bill] Courtney. and really have a good relationship with assistant coach [Marlon] Sears.
Bunce also held offers from Penn, Columbia, Washington State, Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada, Colgate, Lafayette, Arkansas State, Montana State, UC Riverside, UCSB, Portland and Portland State. He has also garnered interest from Stanford, Washington, Missouri, Marquette, Boston College, Maine, Harvard, Princeton and Virginia Tech.
Bunce should have an impact right away being the biggest body on the roster once he joins. He eats up space down low, has solid foot work, good hands, runs the floor pretty well, rebounds his area and has great basketball IQ.
Its all good times for Bunce, not only has he made a great decision to set up his future, he is also fully healthy again from a foot injury that prevented him from helping BC provincial team at Nationals. He will look to have a great senior year before joining the Big Red nation next fall.
He was part of Canadian U19 National team, will join fellow Canadian Manny Sahota a Sophomore forward from Brampton, ON.
