Bounce Squad Shakes Off Jitters in First EYBL Game
Published by Michael Henry on April 10, 2011
On April 8, 2011, the CIA Bounce AAU squad made their first long awaited appearance in the Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League). At the league’s first 2011 stop, in Hampton, Virginia, the Canadian CIA Bounce squad was victorious with a 69-57 win over the Texas Titans.
The Bounce squad was led by the strength of Anthony Bennett (6’8″, 230 lbs, PF, Findlay Prep, 2012) who scored 23 points in 25 minutes of play while adding 7 rebounds. Fellow starter, Andrew Wiggins (6’7″, 195 lbs, SF, Vaughan, 2014), contributed 12 points and added 7 rebounds. Wiggins did so on 4 of 11 shooting, two of those field goals were 3-pointers. Also starting was Sim Bhullar (7’4″, 330 lbs, C, Huntingdon Prep) who had a game high 9 rebounds (7 points, 5 turnovers) and coming off the bench, Bounce was lifted by Naz Long’s (6’3″, 180 lbs, PG, Findlay Prep, 2012) game high 6 assists (10 points, 6 rebounds).
The Dallas based Texas Titans were led by a couple of 2013 prospects in Preston Troutt (5’11″, 165 lbs, SG, Trinity Christian Academy, 2013) and Matthew Jones (6’4″, 180 lbs, SG, DeSoto, 2013) who scored 14 and 12 points respectively. Top prospect Julius Randle (6’9″, 225 lbs, PF, Prestonwood Christian Academy, 2013), struggled in this one logging only 17 minutes of playing time where he was limited to scoring 7 points while earning 4 fouls.
Bounce, made up of players from the Greater Toronto Area, were obviously battling a case of nerves as the team turned the ball over 21 times as compared to the Titans’ 7 turnovers.
