Wiggins Scores 28 Points But Bounce Loses Big

In the morning of April 9, defense was not the strong suit of the CIA Bounce squad as they suffered their first loss 86-68 against the Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC).

Andrew Wiggins (6’7″, 195 lbs, SF, Vaughan, 2014), shot far better than in Bounce’s previous Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) game (see Bounce Squad Shake Off Jitters in First EYBL Game) by leading his team with 28 points on 9-15 shooting from the field. Wiggins continued with a hot hand at the charity stripe as well, where he sunk 9 of 10. But after Wiggins, offensive production fell off dramatically as only two other starters managed double digits. Anthony Bennett (6’8″, 230 lbs, PF, Findlay Prep, 2012) scored 11 points and Naz Long (6’3″, 180 lbs, PG, Findlay Prep, 2012) scored 10 points, but neither could really find a way to lift their team out of the the hole they were in throughout the game.

BABC were putting up points at a torrid pace as defence was not a strong suit for Bounce in this game. The team from Boston shot almost 70% in the first half to quickly take the wind out of the Bounce sails. There was almost no answer for Jaylen Brantley (5’10″, 150 lbs, PG, Wilbraham & Monson Academy, 2013) who shot 8 for 10 from the field and a wicked 15 for 18 from the free throw line en route to a game high 33 points. He also added a game high 6 rebounds to lay claim to a very solid outing. BABC outscored the Canadian team by 14 in the first half, and maintained the lead through the second for the victory.

The CIA Bounce turnover situation was certainly improved upon as a team, down to 14 in this game as opposed to 21 in their last. But the 13 steals BABC amassed was almost four times the amount (4) that Bounce was able to attain.

The loss drops CIA Bounce’s Nike EYBL record to 1-1.
