GOT NEXT: MICQUEEL MARTIN

“Little Beast”, that’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of Micqueel Martin. He is a 6ft1 sophomore point guard that stars at Downsview Secondary.

Micqueel is a very strong and athletic player that has good handles, good shooting range, and has the ability to create easy shots for his teammates. Martin is capable of taking over a game, which he displayed in the OBA leading YAAACE to a Gold Medal in provincial championships over powerhouse St David’s. Micqueel is the go to guy at Downsview Secondary averaging 25 points in his freshman season. Martin’s Grassroots Canada coach Anthony “Huggy” Otto speaks highly of the young star. “Micqueel is a top three player in the GTA right now regardless of class. While playing in a tournament final last summer in Springfield (Mass) a close source to the UMass coaching staff approached me after and verbally stated they would sign both Micqueel and Andrew Wiggins on the spot,” Otto explains.

Martin’s fairly young and it’s a bit evident, he sometimes settles for unnecessary long range shots, and with his ability to attack the basket he should look to be more aggressive. This upcoming season Micqueel was debating on whether to play for the senior or junior team, but decided to stay and play his last junior year, in which he will definitely dominate. Martin is already putting up big numbers early in the season including 45pts against Emery C.I., 35pts on West Hill, 32pts versus Thornlea secondary and several 30 plus games. Micqueel is eyeing a championship in the Toronto- North Division and will look to turn Downsview Secondary into one of the top junior teams in the GTA. UMass, East Carolina and Louisiana Tech are showing major interest at the moment.
