GOT NEXT: Tyler Ennis To The top
Published by Petar Djuric on January 5, 2010
Father Henry Carr is known for producing some of the top players to come out of the country. Upcoming on that list… Tyler Ennis. His size fifteen shoes match his age, but if you were to see Tyler Ennis play, you would be convinced he was getting ready to pick a school where he would spend the next four years.
The six foot, hundred and fifty eight pound point guard is the leader of the Henry Carr’s junior ‘A’ team. So far this season, he has led his team to wins in all tournaments the team has entered, even snagging MVP honors in the majority of them and currently holding an amazing 29-0 record.
Tyler is an unusual player for his age, most players are still learning how their shot works, or how to dribble, even use their off hand. But not Tyler, he is head and shoulder above most in his league. His jumper is pure, his passes are on point, and his tenacity on defense is where he shows his leadership. Not portraying a perfect player but Ennis is truly that impressive and has potential to be a spectacular talent. It doesn’t hurt that his head coach Tony McIntyre is also his father and mentor.
Since a young age Tyler has been mentally ready for his turn as one of the best point guards in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) if not the country. His efficacy on the court is what separates him from most. Ennis has the ability to make quick decisions with the ball. If the defender is off him he isn’t afraid to drain one from long with his signature shot. If they double team, he doesn’t think twice about passing the ball to create opportunities for his teammates.
Tyler spent a part of the holiday break in Tennessee playing in the Arby Classic and getting experience with the senior Henry Carr team. There’s no doubt that by the time Tyler is a senior he will become a well known name to many. The most outstanding thing about Ennis is his relentless work ethic and how coachable he is. A smart young player who deserves the accolades he gets. With the supporting cast of his family and friends Tyler is on the path to success, letting his game take him to the top. While his name is still fairly not known, his game is emerging as one of the best in the 2013 class and also one the best point guards in the GTA regardless of class. The kid once known as the junior from Henry Carr is making a name for himself; Tyler Ennis will soon be on top.
Past Scouting Notes On Ennis
(December, 2009) The MVP of the tournament, there is a lot to get excited about with Tyler. A defensive machine, Ennis will force several turnovers a game on his own. He always seems to be in the passing lane, which along with his tough on ball defense, led to several steals throughout the tournament. He also played good defense and had some spectacular blocks. After getting the fast break started, Tyler can finish himself or pass it off no problem. An unselfish player, he has shown himself to be comfortable taking over the game with his scoring, or running the offense and creating opportunities for the other players on the team. Ennis already has one of the most complete games, and part of the class of 2013, should continue to grow physically and mentally, if there is one kid to watch from this tournament, it’s Tyler.
(October, 2009) One of most exciting players to watch, he makes the game look so easy. Ennis showed great ability of handling the ball and is excellent in the open court. He is super confident, leads by example, very calm and self controlled (he does not involve himself in any trash talking or taunting, just lets his game do the work). Ennis is very unselfish, has good passing skills and amazing court vision and can score when needed to. He is capable of knocking down the open three pointer with feet set, but should look into improving his shot off the bounce. With continuous hard work Ennis will evolve into a special player.
(August, 2009) Ennis is a young point guard representing the class of 2013. An excellent prospect who is great in the open court, Ennis is a smooth and intelligent guard who can hit open shots, run the point smoothly, and make plays for his teammates. At 5’11 and still growing, Ennis is considered one of the best prospects in the class of 2013. This was made apparent throughout the Caribana Classic as he held his own against older and stronger competition. To get to the next level, Ennis must continue to improve his jumper off the dribble.
