Got Next: Keegan Dunlop
Published by CROWN staff on June 28, 2009
Class: 2011
Position: C
Height/Weight: 6’10/ 240Lbs.
School: St. Francis Secondary School (St. Catharines, ON)
Keegan Dunlop finished his sophomore year playing for Coach Patrick Sullivan’s St. Francis Phoenix. The end of his high school season however, only meant the beginning of an action-packed summer. Dunlop was selected as a member of the Hoop Factory Team that took home the Gold in Italy at the prestigious Victor Rho tournament two months ago. Ending off the summer, Keegan will also play for team Ontario heading out to P.E.I for nationals in August.
At 6’10, this lefty’s biggest advantage is his size; and at such a young age, (16). However, as he has played with tough competition over the last year, KD has realized that size alone will not be enough to compete at the highest levels. Dunlop will need to work most on his speed and strength from a physical standpoint. On the hardwood, he will need to add more post moves to his arsenal, which is a given over time. He has shown the ability to step out and hit jumpers. He has good form and should be able to develop this aspect of his game with continued repetitions .Keegan has great hands and a soft touch around the rim, rare in big men nowadays, due to their athletic ability. He will need to combine all these facets to become a truly dominant force inside. Thanks to his excellent work ethic which several coaches have attested to, Dunlop has a very high chance of reaching this potential and could be the top big man coming out of Canada in the next few years.
Thus far, Dunlop has received interest from Notre Dame, Oklahoma State.

Has the height. If he’s willing to keep working, he’ll get signed by someone…

this kid is so soft he has no post moves and is so overated … he has no athletic ability to even have a chance to play at a D1 School

I would only hope that the last comment is from a very young teenager. It would be very sad if came from an adult.

I’ve played against him since the eight grade, he’s had a lot of great opportunities so I’ll give him respect for what he’s done as a ball player coming out of the Niagara Region but I agree with “#6 Jon”he is soft with a limited number of post moves and sulks when things don’t go his way. He’s lucky that he has strong players around him to pick up his slack like Pat P.

Yeah i agree with #9, i watched him play in the mike sullivan memorial, he is a bit uncordinated and soft but that only comes with time. He needs to become more a dominant player and create his own offence. From what i saw the only offence he had was off a dish from his point gaurd #11 Pat Pilato. At the moment he is a good secondary player to someone like Pat.

Keegan is the softest bigman in his highschool league, the only reason he even does remotely well is because of his size. I have guarded him and I outplayed him incredibly. Our school even crushed them in the Standard Tournament semi-finals, because he is so easily shut down. Patrick is nice though.

I hope you were playing the same game Tompsett – K Dunlop has out played you in all 3 matches this year, #22 as you are – really no match for KD
