Kevin Pangos To Gonzaga

Kevin PMark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs have landed their latest Canadian.

Last night the number one point guard in Canada, Kevin Pangos, confirmed he’ll be joining the Bulldog’s 2011 recruiting class.

The Cadet team member who lead Canada to a bronze medal this summer had this to say about Gonzaga.

“They have a great program going right now, a history of great point guards, an opportunity to play and I feel their style of play suits me best.

“I visited in early August and I loved it, they showed me the facilities and all of the things Gonzaga had to offer, which I was impressed with.”

Pangos is a talented point guard with great leadership qualities. At a young age he shows maturity and understanding way ahead of his peers.

He has a great shooting touch from the mid-range, pull-up jumper and can stroke it from deep. He hits the open jumper on a regular basis, knows how to control an offence and is an excellent decision maker.  The type of point guard you feel safe controlling your team.

The 6-foot-1 star player at Dr. Denison Secondary School had recently trimmed his school list down to Notre Dame, Virginia and Gonzaga, but when it came down to it, the Zags had all he could want in a school.

“I enjoyed the recruiting process because I had a chance to go to some very good schools and met a lot of great people along the way,” he said. “I was finally getting tired and Gonzaga had been at the top of my list the entire time, I could never think of anything about the school or program that I didn’t like so I felt I was ready.”

The amount of effort Gonzaga spent on recruiting Pangos was also a major factor.

“The coaches have been contacting me for the longest out of any school and I have really gotten to know them well,” Pangos said. “Coach Few is a great coach that allows his guards to play.

“The entire staff are [a group of] great people who are running a successful program right now and they focus a lot on developing their athletes.”

Pangos joins, Rob Sacre, Kelly Onlynyk, Mangisto Arop as other Canadians on the Bulldogs squad.
