Longhorns Add Another Canadian
Published by Gilbert Muako on March 10, 2011
Texas Longhorns have landed another Canadian.
Rick Barnes and the Texas longhorns are on a consistent run of landing talented Canadians.
Their latest addition is 6-foot-8 combo forward Kevin Thomas. In the second straight year the Longhorns have picked up Canadians in pairs in the guard and forward position with Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson in the 2010 class and Thomas joins star point guard Myck Kabongo as the second Canadian heading to Texas for the 2011 recruiting class.
The Christian Faith Academy Center/Grassroots Canada product has gone from a talented local talent in the GTA to a hot pursuit amongst NCAA schools in the past two seasons, holding offers from high major programs like North Carolina State, Marquette, Wake Forest and Georgetown before opting for Texas.
Thomas is a skilled wing player with size, length and great overall athleticism. He can handle the ball well enough to work from the perimeter, has a smooth shooting touch in the mid-range and the ability to defend inside and out.
Going in and playing alongside a friend and a great lead guard in Kabongo will definitely ease his transition into collegiate life a bit, the two are very familiar with one other as they’ve been teammates with Grassroots Canada and both were members of the Canadian junior national team.
