LOSSA Favorites Cruise Through Semi-Final Matchup
Published by Michael Henry on February 22, 2011
The J Clarke Richardson Storm Seniors had no problem dismantling the Dunbarton Spartans in front of their home crowd on February 22, 2011. Right off the bat in this semi final game, the Storm made their impression on the game by dictating the speed of the game. Leon Alexander brought the home crowd to their feet early on, with a nice throw down to make the score 16-11 in the first quarter. Dunbarton’s SF Andrew Brown, helped his team with 7 first quarter points, which tried to help his team to keep pace. The Spartans managed to close the gap to 18-14 before J Clarke’s Aaron Redpath drained a long two pointer and added a sweet stroke on a 3-point shot. That 3-pointer was followed up by a Tyrelle Samuels 3-pointer as the Storm increased their momentum, ending the quarter on a 10-0 run bringing the score to 28-14.
Dunbarton’s big man, Tyrone Dickson, tried on numerous occaisions to establish position on offense end, but Alexander played him strong and won many of the battles in the post. It was that same athleticism Alexander used to make him difficult to defend. He of course used it to take off for dunks almost at will. J Clarke Richardson’s continued strong team play saw their lead continue to increase to 51-26 at the half time buzzer.
If J Clarke is to continue to be successful, their x-factor players are going to have to play a role in order to lighten the load for their big three. Storm players such as Jaylen Babb Harrison and Kevin Skullie will need to make sure they contribute with strong play and they did in this one, contributing 15 and 6 points respectively. Dual sport athlete Roy Meredith, who was also a LOSSAA 2010 MVP finalist for Dunbarton in football, did all he could to help the Spartans respond. Unfortunately his 15 second half points was too little too late. The J Clarke press was too overwheling for Dunbarton as the final wound up 79-61 for the GTA’s second ranked squad.
With the victory, the J Clarke Richardson Storm move on the LOSSAA (Durham Region) Finals, taking place on February 24 at Durham College in Oshawa. They will be going up against the Pickering Trojans, who defeated Pine Ridge in their semi final matchup, 79-69.
