McMaster Strikes Again, Adding Top G Adam Presutti

Published by on February 7, 2011

McMaster University strikes again landing another top guard in the country. Having already picked up 6-foot-5 forward Brett Sanders, 6-foot-4 guard Aaron Redpath and 6-foot-3 shooting guard Joe Rocca. It came down to a decision between York U, McGill, Bishop’s, U of T, Ottawa and McMaster for 6-foot-2 Loyola star guard Adam Presutti. In the end, with Mac’s credentials academically, top notch facility and a strong incoming class, Presutti saw the perfect situation and gave his pledge to the Marauders on Saturday.

“Mac is a top 100 school and the facilities are top notch,” Presutti said. “From a basketball standpoint it has everything a player could ask for. Coach Amos [Connolly] is a young, enthusiastic coach that has a great knowledge of the game. Mix that with his hard work and determination and its a code for success.

“Not to mention a top recruiting class. Playing alongside and Aaron [Redpath] and Joe [Rocca] will combine for one of the deadliest back courts in the CIS. Brett [Sanders] is a fantastic big man as well. He is one of the most talented bigs and is underrated. He reads the game well and can really shoot it for his size. Maybe right away or maybe in a year or two but it seems extremely dangerous what this recruiting class will do.”

Presutti is a high level shooter, he has excellent form with a perfect release point and will hit on a consistent basis. In addition, he has a solid handle, has the ability run off screens and fire and can shoot just as accurately in transition or on the move making him one the best shooters in the province. Though mainly known as a shooter and currently playing the two spot in high school due to Loyola having a talented lead guard in Mike Lafricain, Presutti loved the fact that McMaster’s coaching staff saw his vision and had faith in him contributing as a point guard, a position where he would like improve and get back to again.

“Most people think I can’t play the one but I’ve been a point guard all my life,” he said. “Coach thinks I have the skills. I just need to fine tune them and keep learning, something I’m willing to do. Nothing has been promised, but I see myself in the rotation competing and playing a significant role as a rookie. At the end of the day it comes down to how hard I’m going to work. Everything I get is because I earned it and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Coach [Justin] Gunter has really said he will focus on helping me improve at the point guard spot.”

Presutti is a major reason why his St. Ignatius Of Loyola team is 38-6 and are a serious contender for 4A OFSAA this year in London, Ontario. He hopes the success he’s seen during his high school career will carry over to the college level as well.

“My main goal is to win like it’s always been,” he said. “Every team I’m on is a winning team because guys sacrifice individualism for the better of the team and I think McMaster has that too”
