dwight powell “It was definitely a long and frustrating recruiting process. I built great relationships with all the coaching staff which made the final decision even harder.” Dwight Powell explains after his Verbal commitment to Stanford this past weekend.

Powell had Stanford, Georgia Tech and Harvard as his final three schools before picking the Cardinal.

He is a Toronto native who attended Earl Haig S.S. before opting out to IMG Academy Bradenton in Florida to further his basketball career.

As a 6’10” 215 forward Powell has made gradual improvement on his game and is recognized as the top 50 Prospects in his 2010 class. We witness this summer that Powell is an athletic, versatile player who gets the job done in many ways, whether slashing to the basket with long strides, knocking down the midrange jumper or occasionally sticking in the three pointers. Dwight is very active and quick off his feet; he runs the floor well and has good ball handles for a player his size.

Choosing Stanford was not based solely on athletics, “Stanford was the best overall fit with a great combination of world class athletics and world class academics” says the Grassroots Canada product who is a 4.0 GPA student.

“Also coach (Johnny) Dawkins is a great coach and it would be a pleasure playing for him and learning from him, especially with the positive direction he is taking the team toward. I really want to put Stanford back on the basketball map and make a great run in the tournament, but I am really looking forward to all aspects of Stanford on and off the court”.
