After weighing all of his options, Mother Teresa Titan, Ritchie Kanza (6’0″, PG, 2011) has made the big decision to attend Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the 2011-2012 academic year and become a Tiger.
Despite the rather lengthy distance from his current home in Scarborough, Ontario, Kanza cites a fond admiration for Halifax along with a golden opportunity to make an immediate impact as the basis for his decision. “I really liked the city on my visit,” he states. “Its a really nice place to be.” So, when the Dalhousie Coaching Staff began recruitment of Kanza, and let him know that the Tigers were set to loose two point guards, Kanza reflect deduced that this was a prime “opportunity where [he] could come in and be effective right away.”
Kanza’s high school career was very good to him. In 2008 he earned a Toronto Junior City title. At the OFSAA provincial Championships, his senior squads earned a Silver Medal in 2009 and a Bronze in 2010. “I learned so much playing for Coach Gallacher,” Kanza expresses as he recollects his high school career memories. Obviously, there is a strong appreciation for the work his high school Coach put in, developing the Point Guard’s game to where it is now.
Taking on big goals for Kanza are not just limited to the basketball court. At Dalhousie he will be majoring in Criminology and is looking forward to the related psychology and socialogy courses as a foundation to later attend Law School.
Along with earning a degree, Ritchie Kanza says that he believes that his Dalhousie experience will be considered a success, if he has made a positive impact on the court for the Tigers, and are able to reach “the nationals to compete among the best [CIS] teams in the country”.
