Silver Fox Invitational: Standouts

Published by Gilbert Muako on January 26, 2010

kevin pangosHamilton, ON The Silver Fox Invitational is one of the more popular events around. This senior boy’s event brought out 18 teams across Ontario to compete and claim the fame as 39th Silver Fox Invitational Champs. As always, tournament director Jim Weatherbee, did a fantastic job conducting this extremely well organized two day tournament. With the consistent fan base Hamilton brings out and the entertaining announcing voice of John Metcalfe, the event was once again a big success.

 Standouts

Kevin Pangos -6’1” -PG -Denison S.S. 2012 - This talented point guard was the most talked about player coming into the event. He runs the point well and is an excellent decision maker. Pangos put on a shooting clinic in the consolation final game, with an amazing looking form. He took some time playing off the ball, working off screens and  knocking down shots from all areas of the floor, it is evident Pangos has put in a great deal of time into his shooting. Even his missed shots looked good! It seems he has added some size also. The weakest part to his game at this moment would be his defense.

Julian Clarke -6’3”- SG- Oakwood C.I. 2011 – Clarke was bothered by a minor injury on his shooting hand earlier in the tournament. Even though the injured finger worried Clarke, he still did a great job moving without the ball, cutting strong to the hole for easy basket or attracting the contact. In the fourth quarter of the tight Championship Final, Clarke picked up his game nailing big time baskets down the stretch, and capturing MVP honors.

Kevin Blake -6’2”- SG -Oakwood C.I. 2011- While Oakwood struggled buying baskets early in the Championship final game, Blake did exactly what was needed- being aggressive and taking it to the basket. His energy and tough play in the first half was a major factor to Oakwood claiming the championship. Blake is athletic, has a good looking midrange jumper and could be force on the defensive end.

Quinn Henderson -6’3” -SG- Parkside H.S. 2011 – The last time we witnessed Quinn in action, he sat comfortably outside the three knocking down shots; but this time he looked even better putting the ball on the floor and creating his own shot.

mike lafricainMike Lafricain -6’0”- PG St. Ignatius Of Loyola 2011 – Mike doesn’t have a great size, but this smooth point guard has a natural feel for the game. Extremely quick with the ball, smart, and is outstanding shooting the ball from outside, especially when he gets in rhythm. Lafricain is good passing point, he has the ability to penetrate, attract the defense and kick out to an open man. He plays with a world of confidence.

Brayden Gohn -6’5” -F -Denison S.S. 2012 – You can appreciate the great effort Brayden Gohn puts toward the game. Not one of the most talked about players, but Gohn plays tough and works hard every second of the game. He even had some nice flush dunks coming off steals.

Rohan Boney- 6’4” -W- St. Ignatius of Loyola 2012 – Long, skinny and athletic. Rohan Boney has great room for improvement being a young player. If Boney continues working hard to improve all aspects of his game, he could be one of the better prospects by his graduation year.

Zack Angelini- 6’2”- F- St. Thomas More 2010 – All though Zac is extremely undersized at the forward position, we would be crazy not to give him a mention. He worked his butt off carrying his St. Thomas Moore team all the way to the finals. Watching a player like you Zac you would have loved to see him at least 6 foot 6 or more, he has a wide body and covers all areas on the floor, scoring in and out, with a silky soft touch from outside.
