Hamilton, ON – The SOSI was filled with some exciting basketball. The tournament was held in Hamilton, ON and featured some of the top teams in Ontario. Jamie Girolametto and his staff did fantastic job making sure the event ran smoothly.
Championship Finals
Oakwood C.I.: 67 vs. St.Marguerite d’youville: 52
Julian Clarke 24pts Manny Sahota 13pts
MVP: Julian Clark
Standout players
Manny Sahota 6’6” SF 2010 St.Marguerite d’youville – Sahota did a great job carrying his team through the event with his consistent play. The Cornell Commit has a solid build and mixes up his game quite well, whether he is knocking down shots on the perimeter, creating in the midrange, or banging down low for tough buckets. He is active on the boards. Sahota is more athletic than he appears. He doesn’t standout in one department he just does everything well and has room to improve his overall game to become a better player.
Julian Clarke 6’3” SG 2011 Oakwood C.I – Clarke plays the game with such amazing poise and has something that the overall high school prospect lacks, shooting at a high percentage. Clarke is one of the best all around shooters I’ve come across; he has a quick release as well. He shoots the ball with great confidence and has the long range, the midrange pull up especially going left, fighting through screens, working with out the ball to get himself in the right spot on the floor (Reggie miller-Rip Hamilton- Ray Allen like). The weakest point to his game right now would be his ball handling ability and also creating his own shot off the bounce.
Kevin Blake 6’2” SG 2012 Oakwood C.I – A two guard with an athletic strong build. Blake plays within the system, he never forces the issue, he just finds himself in the right spots on the floor. He possesses good leaping ability and has a good build which works in his favor when attacking the rim. Blake was consistent nailing the midrange jumper but should look to extend his shot behind the arc. He is capable of finishing with either hand once at the rim. Blake has a flat face emotion and is extremely focused on the court. He is a true competitor, especially on the defensive end.
Honorable Mentions
Chevan Miller-Bennett 6’0” PG 2012 H.B. Beal– A speedy point guard with good ball handling abilities. Bennett is good when penetrating, once inside the paint he’ll kick out to an open man. Bennett is very energetic and always playing at a fast paste which puts him in bad situations at times. Overall a solid young point guard with improving game.
Alexander Johnston 7’0” C 2012 H.B. Beal – Johnson is a real thin 7 footer with a developing game. Johnson needs to put on a significant amount of weight to hold his own. At his height he should not be pushed around for rebounds and position by opponents much smaller. He should practice to keep the ball high to avoid smaller guards from ripping it out his hands. Johnson does show a lot of effort and the willingness to be a better player. So with a lot of hard work and the right training Johnson could be a good pick up. There’s not much seven footer to choose from and there’s a lot of time left to work on this big man to get him where he should be.
Taylor Black 6’7” PF 2010 Orchard Park – Taylor Black was Consistent putting the ball in the basket through out the event. He has a solid build and is very tough competitor.
