Pinky Lewis Tournament: Semi-final Game

Published by on December 22, 2008

Eastern Commerce VS. Father Henry Carr

It was a team effort for Eastern Commerce as the Saints had 3 players hit double digits. Marvin Binney with 15, Jerome Brown with 13 and Shamar Bennett posting 12 points.

Unfortunately for FHC, the only player to show up to this game was Point Guard Josh Ogden.

Both teams came out to a slow start, missing shots and committing careless turnovers which resulted in a 10-9 first quarter lead for the Saints. As the game resumed, Eastern began to pick up steam, showcasing their superior athleticism and depth. In fact, they went on a 20-9 run in the second quarter, exposing Henry Carr’s youth and inexperience. This run took Eastern Commerce into halftime with a 14 point cushion, 29-15

EC continued to dominate in the second half as the Carr crusaders struggled to develop any consistency on the offensive end. PG Josh Ogden kept the score respectable scoring 7 of his 20 points in the third quarter. With 2:36 in the 3rd, Eastern’s Alwane Bigby brought the gym back to life, throwing down a one-handed cocked-back posterization. Bigby’s victim will remain anonymous for reputation purposes. Although Bigby’s dunk was near the end of the 3rd, it determined the outcome of the game, keeping all momentum in favour of Eastern Commerce.
Final score: 61-48 Eastern Commerce

Leading Scorers:
Eastern Commerce: #15 Marvin Binney- 15 Points
Father Henry Carr: #1 Josh Ogden- 20 Points

Conclusion: Young but deep, look for the Crusaders to make major improvements throughout the season
