Mother Teresa VS. Pickering

Going into this game, both Pickering and Mother Teresa had something to prove. On Pickering’s side, they needed to show everyone that they should still be crowned as the number one team in the Province. On the other hand, Mother Teresa needed to prove why they were newly ranked as the number one team to beat for the 08-09 year.

BIG MO, as always, started the game strong scoring 11 points out of Mother Teresa’s 15 points in the first quarter. For Pickering, Rob Gagliardi dropped 12 of the 23 points that his team had, leading in the first quarter.

By the second quarter, Pickering had picked up their defensive pressure ,particularly on Walker, as they would double team, or even triple team him every time the ball landed in his hands; holding him to 4 points in the second. Also, have to credit Pickering’s 6’7 junior forward Kevin Thomas for his outstanding defensive presence in outplaying

MT’s big man, by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks . At the end of the second quarter, the presumed close game ended with 40 for Pickering to 23 for Mother Teresa.

Pickering kept their aggressive defence rolling by limiting MT to only pick up 9 points during the third quarter ending with 53 for Pickering and 32 for MT. It was a no show for Mother Teresa’s point guard, Ashton Khan, who was held to 4 points in the game due to Pickering’s tough defence. At this point, the Mother Teresa Titan’s were falling short of observer’s expectations.
While Pickering’s starting 5 got a chance to take a breather on the bench as they rode the game out with their bench players; MT pushed at the end was too late as the game finished with Pickering’s 59 points topping Mother Teresa’s 48 Points.
Overall a solid game. Nonetheless, I was hoping to see more of what the highly spoken MT has to offer.
