Published by Gilbert Muako on January 31, 2011
St. Ignatius Of Loyola point guard Mike Lafricain is having an excellent senior year, his team has 38-6 winning record and are a strong contender for this years’ 4A OFSSA championships. The 6 foot undecided lead guard is talented, confident in big game situation and is the type of guy you want controlling your offense. His list of schools include Ottawa U, Laurentian , Bishop, McGill, Carleton, Western and has been in contact with a few NCAA Division 1 schools. There’s no time table on his school decision but whoever lands Lafricain will definitely have something to be excited about. Check out past scouting notes and Video below.
Past Scouting Notes On Lafricain
January 2011 (St. Mike Invitation) - Once again, Lafricain impresses, showing he is one of the best lead guards in the country. He has great confidence and leadership on the floor, always communicating and looking to make others around him better. Mike has a high basketball IQ, he is capable of handling the ball well with either hand under pressure and can run an offence while making the right decision. He also could be a scoring threat from outside where he can consistently knock down shots. Whatever CIS school lands Lafricain, it will have something big to smile about.
December 2010 (Holiday Classic) - Deceptively quick lead guard a with nice feel for the game, Lafricain is quick with the ball in his hands where he is good in the open floor creating opportunities to find the open man. He is capable of running a half court set, making sound decisions, is a good passer with solid vision but also has the ability to score the ball when it is needed as evidenced by his 35-point outburst in a big semi-finals match up against J. Clarke Richardson. Always calm and poised, Lafricain’s a high percentage shooter from the three, a plus at his position. His biggest weakness right now is finishing around the basket and must improve his strength to handle contact.
January 2010 (Silver Fox Invitational) - Mike doesn’t have a great size, but this smooth point guard has a natural feel for the game. Extremely quick with the ball, smart, and is outstanding shooting the ball from outside, especially when he gets in rhythm. Lafricain is good passing point, he has the ability to penetrate, attract the defense and kick out to an open man. He plays with a world of confidence.
