Walker Officially A Gopher
Published by Gilbert Muako on April 15, 2010
There has been a lot of speculation in the past couple days concerning big man Maurice Walker and his potential commit to Minnesota. Well it’s now official! The Canadian Center signed his letter of intent on Wednesday after a successful visit on campus over the weekend. Walker, the former Mother Teresa Titans star, began turning heads in late 2008 while playing for the Titans and his Team Takeover AAU team.
He received a significant amount of interest from several high-major programs including Kansas, Georgetown and Marquette. In the end, Coach Tubby Smith and the Gopher fans won out.
At 6’10”, 270 pounds, Walker first began to receive major level attention for his big body. However, Walker possesses high skill level in the post; he has great hands and light touch around the basket. All these are signs of a mature young player, who not only possesses the physical specs to play at the next level, but the ever important basketball I.Q. to utilize his skill set. Walker will join long time friend Devoe Joseph a sophomore guard.
